Like it says in the banner, Radically Enlightened is an ad-free space dedicated to global activism and critical thinking in the areas of current events, culture, spirituality and philosophy. Depending on what you’ve read, this will either seem very original or very rehashed.
So if it’s already been done before, why bother approaching this angle? Why focus on these areas?
Humanity finds itself in a state of great emergency.
We are faced with the threat of our extinction, whether from the devastation brought on by global climate change and the destruction of the environment; the dwindling of resources as population skyrockets and the masses are oppressed by the privileged few; epidemic health crises resulting from the manufacture of processed/nutrient-deficient/pesticide-saturated food, pollution, and poisonous chemicals; the deliberate escalation of violence that could potentially lead to nuclear holocaust; and so on.
The dangers scream at us from all directions, sandwiched between rounds of advertisements that tell us our spending habits will solve the problems — or at least distract us from them until someone else figures out what to do.
There are a number of outlets calling for humanity to “wake up” and “become conscious” of our predicament. However, the prominence of fear, reactionary violence and competition demonstrate that people are indeed very aware of the issues facing us — at least, those they choose not to deny.
Humans don’t need to wake up. We need to act.
Unfortunately, our progress is being hindered by the limitations of our beliefs. Whether they be religious beliefs, philosophical beliefs, secular beliefs, social beliefs, or beliefs about ourselves and the power that we have to change things, we desperately need to critically examine, question, and change these beliefs if we are to be effective in this struggle. But asking questions and finding answers is only Step One.
Myriad sources have dedicated themselves to spreading alternate perspectives to the social narrative so many of us have been raised with. These outlets range from conspiracy theory peddlers to spiritual philosophers to fact-based journalists and scholars, and anywhere in between. Thinkers are focused in their areas, each trying to approach the problems as best they can, inevitably leading to conflict when the narratives differ.
There are about as many ways to perceive humanity’s situation as there are people on the planet. But if we’re going to get anywhere, we need a narrative that will cut through the noise and find the common thread in these overlapping conversations.
We need to dig deep, to leave no stone unturned — most of all, within ourselves.
We need to communicate, to really and truly COMMUNE-icate.
We need to feel the fear, not run from it. The fear is what will prompt us to act.
Yet we need this common narrative, this transcendent truth of our interdependence, before we act.
There are plenty of people acting on their differing (and often polarizing) beliefs, which is leading to so much of the struggle we see now. The problem is that they are acting from a place of self-interest rather than in the interests of the greater global community. It is within the natures of many of these systems of belief that people find themselves justified in shirking blame, dodging responsibility, and refusing to join others in efforts to create positive change in the world. And who can blame them, when their social, spiritual/religious, and cultural beliefs incite them to act thusly? “The illusion of separation,” as many call it, is richly incentivized.
We need to unite.
And it is from this place of union that humanity must act.
It is to the pursuit of this common narrative, this transcendent Truth, this finding of common direction, that Radically Enlightened is dedicated. So that’s not lofty or anything.
I cannot promise that I will find and effectively communicate this Truth, for it is elusive and complex.
But I will try my damnedest.
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the thoughts and ideas shared here. If you have something to contribute, I would love to hear from you (I’m especially interested in guest writers and other creatives). In the meantime, be well. Ask questions. Seek truth. Live from your soul. Act from your heart.
